Loftia

    Loftia is a Kickstarter project intended to be a cozy MMO set in on a floating island in a solarpunk world where players can farm, decorate their home, and work together with other players to improve their town.


My Role: Art Lead / 3D Generalist
    I was initially hired as the first 3D artist on Loftia, but due to me being the most experienced developer on the team, I quickly grew into a Lead role. As such, I had a hand in both establishing the 3D art direction by making a variety of assets as well as building up the 3D team and establishing proper game development practices.


Primary responsibilities:


-
Helmed an international team of seven fully remote artists from different
cultures across the globe.
- Established, iterated on, and documented art direction and processes.
- Created a variety of 3D assets including: modular buildings, crops with growth stages, initial character model, animations, VFX.
- Helped build and iterate on, set dressed, and polished spaces in the game world.
- Reviewed 3D models, painted over other work to provide articulated and
detailed feedback, and communicated with non-artists to ensure project
goals were accurate, achievable, and being met.
- Oversaw compositional direction for the project’s Kickstarter trailer and
directly implemented, and iterated on camera and sequences in Ue5.

Other responsibilities:

- Discussed and clarified the desires and goals from all stakeholders to
provide appropriate feedback and direction on Art and Design.
- Educated non-artists and non-developers on art and game fundamentals
to aid in basic understanding and communication.
- Cooperated with leadership to identify project needs and lead the hiring
effort to staff up and support the art team whilst alleviating risks.
- Identified issues on the team and project, synthesized strategies to
improve them, then presented those to the team and leadership.
- Established production practices across the whole project.
- Managed production schedules and tracked assets through development.

Various Projects (2021 - 2022)

Below is art I made for various indie projects while working with a small team
informally known as "Newspaper Investors". I hand painted all the tile sets and flipbooks in Photoshop, along with setting up all aspects of levels, characters, VFX, lighting, and blueprints in Ue4.
